To anyone who isn't familiar with the +A mode, which #allnitecafe has been on 24/7 for a number of months now:
You need to have a +v (voice) in order to communicate with everyone else on the main. If you are -v, you will NOT get a message stating that your text couldn't be sent to the channel, because it is being redirected to only the ops. This allows the ops to monitor the chat more efficiently -- helping to prevent spam, floods, and trolling/abuse.
WAYS TO GET +v:
A) Be identified to your registered nickname when entering the channel. If your client automatically joins #allnitecafe before your identification is completed, you can identify and just part/rejoin to get +v from the 'Auditorium' bot. For more info on registering/identifying, please see docs.dal.net/docs/nsemail.html#1 or type /ns help register and/or /ns help identify on IRC.
B) 'Auditorium' will also +v you if you join and your IDENTD is working properly. If you know what IDENTD is, you might have it working properly already. If you don't know what it is, it can be a bit "technical" to set up -- requires opening/forwarding port 113 in your router to your PC, and enabling it in your IRC client. Google might be your friend here.
C) If you are a regular chatter, you can have an account set up on the other bots (ANC/ForceField) by messaging Bryan.
D) Type something and patiently wait for an op to +v you. If you see an op actively chatting, but not +v'ing you, they might not be paying attention to the ops channel. /msg them and ask for a +v so you can join in on the chat.
SIDE EFFECTS OF +A:
It tends to mess with most IRC clients nickname list. When you are -v upon joining the channel, you cannot see all of the other -v users in the channel (you can see all the ops and voiced users though). Once you receive +v, your IRC client doesn't understand +A and that it now needs to update the nicknames list. In mIRC (and some other clients), this is done by typing /names #allnitecafe, if you're interested in seeing EVERYONE in the channel.
If you have any questions, please ask an op Thank you, and we hope you enjoy your stay!
